CARRIED THROUGH THIS WALTZ http://www.handlemedown.de 8/ 10 riefkasten die Laune am Abend gleich steigern. Nämlich genau dann, wenn vielversprechende oder auf sehnlichste erwartete Alben den Weg dorthin gefunden haben. So in etwa war die Gefühlslage als das zweite Album „Carried Through This Waltz“ der finnischen Street-Punker von HEARTBREAK STEREO seiner Verpackung entledigt wurde. Denn mit ihrem Debüt „Inspirations (Back From The Dead“) sind die drei Finnen noch immer in bester Erinnerung. Jung, unbekümmert und melodisch, so lässt sich dieses wohl bestens beschreiben. Und genau da macht das Zweitwerk auch weiter. Groß am Sound geändert hat man nicht. Vielleicht sind sie noch einen Tick härter, rauer geworden, was auch an der Produktion liegen mag. Wobei das in der Menge der Ohrwürmer und Hymnen fast untergeht. Quasi im Wechsel gibt es schnellere Nummern mit hymnischeren Songs, die letztlich auch etwas hervorstechen. Vor allem „All I Got“, „Stepping Out Of Line“ oder „2kids“ zaubern einem ein dickes Grinsen ins Gesicht. Und „Sunburn“ wäre mit den Chören glatt ne Stimmungsgranate für die DROPKICK MURPHYS. Wobei natürlich auch die Erinnerungen an ältere RANCID zwangsläufig wieder hochkommen. HEARTBREAK STEREO machen einfach Spaß, rocken sich auch auf ihrem Zweitwerk munter durch etwas über eine halbe Stunde Spielzeit und schütteln die Singalongs leichtfüßig nur so aus dem Ärmel. So einfach kann Punkrock sein. LAMMAS ZINE Kolmejäseninen Heartbreak Stereo on vääntänyt punkrockiaan jo vuodesta 2004 lähtien. Ensikosketukseni oli vuonna 2005 julkaistu kokoelma “You Gotta Start Somewhere” (Pekka Productions), jolle itse pyysin jannuja. Siitä asti olen sumealla sivusilmällä seurannut bändin kehitystä. Vuonna 2008 bändi julkaisi ensimmäisen pitkäsoittonsa “Inspiration (Back From the Dead)”, joka julkaistiin Keski-Euroopassa ja Japanissa asti. Tätä ennen muutama mcd ja esiintymiset kokoelmilla täydentävät diskografiaa. Bändi on soittanut lukuisia keikkoja niin kotimaassa kuin ulkomaillakin. Ja voi pojat, lavaa on jaettu sellaisten bändien kanssa kuten Mad Caddies, The Real McKenzies, Bouncing Souls, Hudson Falcons, Born To Lose jne. Ja ehkä HBS:n kohdalta voidaan todeta, että ei aina tarvitse sitä suosiota hakea kotimaan kautta, jos on kunnianhimoa ja taitoa hyödyntää ulkomaita. Bändin ensimmäisiä levyä en ole kuullut, joten en pysty analysoimaan kehityskaarta sen syvällisemmin. Kärjistetyn väkivaltaisesti Heartbreak Stereoata voidaan luonnehtia ruotsalaisvaikutteiseksi rancidpunkiksi. Vaikka nimitys ei ole aivan tuulesta temmattu, on “Carried Through This Walz” monipuolisempi kuin tuo aiemmin mainitun lokeron luoma yksioikoisuuteen kurotteleva harmaus. Levy kuulostaa ruotsalaiselta laatutuotteelta (Parainenhan on melkein Ruotsia), mutta kuten usein tällä(kin) genren saralla, tarvitaan mm. aimoannos karismaattista omaleimaisuutta erottuakseen. Tietenkin hyvin biisien lisäksi. Parhaiten levyltä jää mieleen avausraita Say Nothing, rullaava Fell in Love sekä rokkaava Sunburn ja haikeahko Stepping Out of Line. Kuitenkin kaiken kaikkiaan hyvin tuotettu, energinen ja rullaava “Carried Through This Waltz” -levy ei pysty tarjoamaan lämpimää kesätuulta vaikuttavampaa kokemusta. Toki kesätuuli saa aikaan miellyttäviä hetken hyväilyjä, mutta vain hetken. Enemmän rohkeutta aiheuttamaan se helleaalto tai jopa myrsky… INSPIRATION (BACK FROM THE DEAD) BIG CHEESE MAGAZINE 4/5 - issue 111 may 2009 "...their sound could quite easily fit into the Hellcat roster (no doubt pissing all over a few of them) but they simply play power pop punk in a way that anyone who likes the genre is going to love. What more can you ask for?" -Simon Nott KERRANG! 4/5: PRECOCIOUS FINS INDULGE THEIR LOVE FOR OLDSKOOL PUNK ROCK ESCHEWING THE clean-cut, piss-weak. pop-punk sound - that's sadly ever more popular with so-called punks of today, in favor of gnarly three-chord oi! is a choise that comes up trumps for Finland's Heartbreak Stereo on this impressive introductory full-lenght. Redolent of Rancid or Social Distortion with a gentle nod to the wistful sonwriting of the Gaslight Anthem this record that not only bounces along at a frenetic pace with catchy tunes in spades but also resonates with an honestly and passion often woefully lacking. If you only buy one Finnish punk album this year... -MARK GRIFFITHS NO FRONT TEETH : HEARTBREAK STEREO – INSPIRATION (BACK FROM THE DEAD)' CD I still listen to last year's 'Echo Road' EP a lot so I was looking forward to this full-length from Finland's HEARTBREAK STEREO who have a great sound that's faster-paced, urgent and melodic blending elements of WASTED, RANCID, RANDY, BOMBSHELL ROCKS and THE SWINGIN' UTTERS. It's that great blend of contemporary American and European punk rock with a really full-sound and some killer hooks and back-up vocals. They have a touch of the early TKO sound too which is now quite hard to come by. This is really fucking solid – and I knew it would be…they have just found the perfect blend of power and melody because this would certainly appeal to fans of streetpunk and Oi! as much as it would to fans of melodic punk rock…it's a really good record with a lot of mileage because they haven't followed any particular formula, they're not obsessed with aggression or any shit like that, this is just an honest punk rock record with some fantastic song writing.
